Hi, my name is Adam Smith and I’m the author of http://jackalopekid.com. I’m here to talk to you today about compassion. No, I’m not talking about Compassion International, even though they are pretty awesome. I’m here to talk about the ACTION of compassion towards others. Actually, this is to challenge the church and myself as I write this to show compassion to anyone. I/we need to be the church and do something outside the four walls of the church for a change. When I think of showing compassion it ends up being about the homeless and my brain shuts off there. I want to think of something fresh and new and this is where you, the blogging community, come into play.
Can you help me out?
What are some ways we as the church can show some compassion towards others?

I’m like you and probably the rest of the general public when it comes to thinking about compassion – dealing with homeless, tending to the sick etc. etc. Its so easy as church goers to find compassion for people outside the church. We can work ourselves up and get food ready to feed the homeless, get blankets for them to aid them with the cold but…..why is it that Christians have difficulty in showing compassion to their fellow brethren? I’m sure there are probably people in the churches that we attend who are on low income who need some kind of emotional support or otherwise, people who need a companion to go with them to attend hospital appointments, even people who may need help with some house chores.
I have a theory….when people come to church we get to know them. Their personality starts to come through and though we may like it or not, they may have some irritating little habits or manners that can get to us as individuals. Let’s face it, we all have mannerisms….but when these mannerisms and habits face us….some people would prefer to run than to help. Feeding the homeless, you don’t get to know characters the way that you would in the church.
Compassion should be practical and should be first shown towards our own family in Christ.
I hope you get me…..
I definitely get you. good stuff
